Growing Community.

Rejoice Communal Gardens hopes to be an inclusive community space, connecting neighbors and gathering people around food. The Rejoice communal garden will be a fortifying space, strengthening and nourishing individuals and our community’s physical well-being through nutrition, natural exercise, and fresh air. It will foster social, emotional, and spiritual health through the community that is created by the generous use of our land, and a peaceful setting that invites reflection and meditation. All will be welcome in the garden with the inclusion of a children’s garden, raised beds for the disabled and elderly, and sensory garden. It will serve the larger community through donations to those in need. A community garden was the most frequent proposal on the land use survey by both the congregation and neighborhood.

Our hope is to level and fence our land, as well as, get a water line extended to the garden area before the 2026 growing season. At that time we would be able to plant part of the garden space for 2026 and learn how we might better implement the entire plan moving forward.

Here is a sketch of the proposed garden. We are absolutely open to this plan changing as we better understand the needs of our community, however, we are pretty excited about the opportunities sketched out here. We plan to start with spaces A and C, the raised beds at the entrance and communal garden space for 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Communal Garden? Do you mean Community Garden?

A communal garden is a practice of gardening together. In community gardens, each gardener gets a plot of land to garden themselves. We have learned from our local garden partners that communal gardening is another option. Communal gardens have memberships and then everyone gardens the entire plot together. Our garden team will provide some direction such as: this week we need to weed the lettuce and harvest the carrots! However, members still have input in what and how we plant together.

Who can become a member?

Anyone committed to participating! You don’t need to know how to garden, live nearby, or be a member of the church to be a member of the Rejoice Communal Garden. (though living nearby certainly makes it more convenient). Just be committed to participating in caring for the space.

How do I become a member?

We’re working on that! Our garden team has a lot to do at the moment setting up infrastructure for the space. We hope to have more info early in 2026 about what our summer 2026 season will look like. Please use the form above to signup for updates to stay informed!
